Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Febri Diansyah is acting as legal counsel for former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah in a case involving alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU).

This emerged after Febrie underwent questioning by the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) in his capacity as a suspect.

“This is the first questioning session I have accompanied him at. The letter of engagement was dated yesterday,” Febri said at the Kejagung building in Jakarta on Friday (23 July).

Febri said his client hopes the legal process in this case will proceed fairly.

He said his client hopes the Kejagung investigators will be able to sift through the facts clearly.

“This includes the need to clarify as clearly as possible what exactly the allegations and the predicate crime are for the money laundering indication,” he said.

Before Febri, prominent lawyer Hotman Paris briefly acted as Febrie Ardiansyah’s lawyer. However, only a few days after announcing himself as Febrie’s counsel, he declared he was withdrawing.

The decision was announced after a barrage of criticism directed at him following his announcement that he was Febrie’s counsel.

“I already told him, because my health condition could deteriorate seriously, I informed him [Febrie] that I am withdrawing as lawyer for Mr Febrie in this case as a suspect at the Attorney General’s Office. That is the gist of it,” Hotman said.

Hotman said his current health condition is not good. Sitting in a wheelchair, he said he had just received hospital treatment for a pinched nerve.

He also said he had been given painkillers before announcing his withdrawal.
