Former KPK investigator Yudi Purnomo Harahap has highlighted the press conference held by Hotman Paris, the lawyer of former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah, which took place at the Attorney General’s Office building last week. Yudi believes the legal team representing Febrie received special treatment.

Hotman Paris held the press conference on Friday (17/7) at the Attorney General’s Office building in South Jakarta. At the time, Hotman gave a statement to the press after accompanying Febrie during questioning as a suspect.

Hotman conducted the press conference complete with a table and microphone facilities. Yudi said this was odd, as statements by a suspect’s lawyer are usually delivered via doorstop interviews.

“I don’t think a suspect’s lawyer has ever been given facilities for a press conference with a microphone and table provided,” Yudi told journalists on Monday (20/7/2026).

Yudi said the Attorney General’s Office must thoroughly investigate the alleged special facilities provided to Hotman. According to Yudi, the preferential treatment behind Hotman’s press conference is feared to affect public confidence in the Attorney General’s Office’s investigation into Febrie’s case.

“This is certainly a stain on the trust of people who still do not believe the prosecutor’s office can investigate Febrie’s case on its own. Perhaps there are still Febrie loyalists involved in providing those press conference facilities,” he said.

Yudi further urged Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to deploy a team to investigate the alleged provision of special facilities to Febrie’s legal team.

“The Attorney General must dispatch a team to find out who was behind providing press conference facilities for Hotman Paris and his team. Because this goes against the principle of justice, especially as they are lawyers for a corruption suspect,” Yudi explained.

“This incident must not happen again. That is why the prosecutor’s office must be cleansed of Febrie’s supporters if it still wants public trust in investigating the corruption cases related to coal supplies to power plants, Krakatau Steel and Asabri,” he continued.

The corruption case ensnaring Febrie has officially come under the authority of the Attorney General’s Office after the police transferred the suspect and evidence. The Attorney General’s Office said that so far Febrie has only been charged as a suspect in the Asabri corruption case.

Meanwhile, the other two cases, namely the coal corruption and Krakatau Steel cases, are still under investigation. Febrie has also not been detained following questioning by Attorney General’s Office investigators on Friday (17/7).
