Former KPK Investigator Highlights Hotman Paris's Privileged Press Conference at Prosecutor's Office
Former KPK investigator Yudi Purnomo has stated that the controversy surrounding the statements made by Hotman Paris, the lawyer for former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah, during a press conference cannot be separated from the fact that he was given a platform at the Attorney General’s Office to hold a formal press conference rather than a simple doorstep interview. According to Yudi, this is deeply concerning given the progressive development of the investigation, which has already named Febrie as a suspect. “It seems unprecedented for a suspect’s lawyer to be given facilities for a press conference, complete with a microphone and table. This is certainly a stain on public trust, as people still do not believe the Attorney General’s Office is handling Febrie’s case independently,” Yudi said in a statement on Monday, 20 July 2026. Yudi also suggested that loyalists of Febrie might still be involved in providing the press conference facilities. He therefore urged the Attorney General to deploy a team to investigate who was the mastermind behind providing the press conference facilities for Hotman Paris and his team. “This violates the principle of justice, especially since they are lawyers for a corruption suspect. Such an incident must not be repeated. For this reason, a clean-up of the Attorney General’s Office from Febrie’s supporters must be carried out immediately if they still want to gain public trust in investigating corruption cases related to coal supply to power plants, Krakatau Steel, and Asabri,” he said.
