Former Kemendikbud Consultant Ibam Sentenced in Chromebook Case Today
A consultant at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology during the Chromebook laptop procurement, Ibrahim Arief or Ibam, will undergo the verdict reading session today, Tuesday (12/5).
The trial for the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chromebooks and Chrome Device Management (CDM) at Kemendikbudristek is being held at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court (PN).
“The panel of judges needs time to compile this decision and has postponed the verdict reading for two weeks, yes, on 12 May 2026,” said the chief judge Purwanto S Abdullah at the Jakarta Corruption Court during the Tuesday (28/4) hearing.
The judges required two weeks because, at the same time, they were also focusing on resolving the evidence in the case involving the defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim, the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
“That is it, please understand because we are indeed handling many things besides this case,” the judge said.
Previously, on Thursday (16/4), Ibam was prosecuted with a 15-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp1 billion subsidiary 190 days imprisonment.
The prosecutors also demanded that the panel of judges impose an additional penalty on Ibam in the form of an obligation to pay replacement money amounting to Rp16.92 billion subsidiary 7 years and 6 months imprisonment.
Based on the trial facts, the prosecutors believe Ibam is guilty of violating Article 603 in conjunction with Article 20 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law (UU Tipikor).
In undergoing this legal process, Ibam is not detained in a detention centre. He has been designated as a city detainee because he has a history of chronic heart disease. Nevertheless, an electronic device (detector) has been fitted to him for monitoring.
