Former Karangasem Regional Development Planning Agency Head Questioned Over Alleged Decorative Street Lighting Corruption

The former Head of the Karangasem Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), I Nyoman Sutirtayasa, has been questioned as a witness regarding alleged criminal acts of corruption in the procurement of decorative public street lighting (LPJU) in Karangasem. Sutirtayasa currently serves as a specialist staff member to the Regent of Karangasem.

Accompanied by his lawyer, Sutirtayasa arrived at the Karangasem District Attorney’s Office on Monday (18/05/2026). However, he declined to comment, merely waving to the press before entering the interrogation room.

The Head of Intelligence at the Karangasem District Attorney’s Office, Ferdy Arya Nul Hakim, revealed that two witnesses were questioned today regarding the alleged corruption in the decorative street lighting procurement. These witnesses include representatives from both the private sector and the local government.

“The witness from the private sector completed their statement this afternoon after answering dozens of questions. Currently, investigators are still obtaining statements from the local government side,” said Ferdy.

In addition to these two witnesses, Ferdy noted that dozens of individuals have been questioned by investigators from the Karangasem District Attorney’s Office so far. It is reported that the procurement of the decorative street lighting involves hundreds of units with a budget amounting to billions of rupiah.

“The statements from these witnesses are vital to our efforts in uncovering the case transparently and identifying all those involved,” Ferdy stated.

Ferdy emphasised that investigators will continue to summon further witnesses. He expressed hope that the testimonies provided would bring clarity to the case.

“We hope that the summoned witnesses will be cooperative and provide honest and open statements for the sake of law enforcement,” Ferdy added.
