Former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah Files for Pretrial Review

Former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah has finally taken the legal step of filing a pretrial motion regarding the criminal case against him. Through his legal team, Febrie asserted he will test in court the validity of his designation as a suspect and other legal actions concerning his detention, searches, and seizures conducted by the National Police’s investigative team.

The pretrial motion filed also questions the legality of the travel ban or restriction on leaving the country. Febrie’s lawyer, Febri Diansyah, stated that a pretrial motion is his client’s right. This pretrial motion was filed because the defence team’s review found many irregularities, as well as clear violations of legal procedure by the police investigative team during the handling of this case.

Muhammad Farizi, another member of the legal team, explained that the pretrial motion is divided into two clusters. The first concerns the validity of Febrie’s designation as a suspect for money laundering (TPPU). He said that to date, the police investigative team, which initially handled the case, and the Attorney General’s Office, which later took it over, have not explained the basis for the money laundering charges.

Furthermore, Farizi stated there was a clear violation of legal principles, as Febrie was named a suspect twice for the same alleged criminal act. The second cluster of the pretrial motion concerns the legality of the searches, seizures, and the suspect designation related to the corruption and money laundering case specifically involving PT Asabri. This cluster names the National Police as the sole respondent in the pretrial motion.
