Former Jember Deputy Speaker Sentenced to Six Years for Corruption

The former Deputy Speaker of the Jember Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Dedy Dwi Setiawan, has been sentenced to six years in prison and fined Rp50 million for corruption related to the procurement of food and beverages for the 2023 and 2024 regional regulation socialisation programme (sosperda). The verdict was delivered by a panel of judges led by Ratna Dianing Wulansari at the Surabaya Corruption Court on Wednesday. The court also ordered Dedy to pay Rp504,478,050 in restitution, with a five-year prison term as a substitute if the payment is not made. The sentence was lighter than the 6.5-year prison term and Rp300 million fine demanded by prosecutors. Four other defendants were also found guilty. Yuanita Qomariyah received a four-year prison sentence and a Rp50 million fine, while Rudy Adrianus Ririhen, Ansori, and Sugeng Raharjo were each sentenced to three years and six months in prison with identical fines. Sugeng was additionally ordered to pay Rp127,800,200 in restitution. The restitution obligations for Yuanita and Dedy were reduced by the value of assets already seized. Responding to the ruling, Jember Chief Prosecutor Yadyn stated that all parties named in the decision would be held criminally accountable. He emphasised that no one is immune to the law and did not rule out the possibility of new suspects being named based on facts revealed during the trial. The head of the special crimes section at the Jember Prosecutor’s Office, Ivan Praditya, noted that the verdict contained specific instructions requiring follow-up by investigators, and his office is awaiting the complete written ruling before determining the next steps.
