Former Jember Deputy Speaker Sentenced to Six Years for Corruption
Jember, East Java (ANTARA) - Former Deputy Speaker of the Jember Regency Parliament (DPRD), Dedy Dwi Setiawan, has been sentenced to six years in prison and fined Rp50 million in a corruption case concerning the procurement of food and beverages for the socialisation of the formation of regional regulations (sosperda) in Jember Regency in 2023 and 2024.
Presiding Judge Ratna Dianing Wulansari, accompanied by panel members Samhadi and H. Agus Kasiyanto, read out the verdicts against five defendants in the sosperda corruption case, including Dedy Dwi Setiawan, at the Surabaya Corruption Court (Tipikor) in East Java on Wednesday.
“The panel declares the defendant Dedy Dwi Setiawan legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing corruption jointly, and therefore sentences him to six years in prison and a fine of Rp50 million, subsidised by 50 days’ imprisonment,” the panel of judges said during the hearing at the Surabaya Corruption Court.
Dedy was also ordered to pay restitution of Rp504,478,050, which if unpaid will be replaced by an additional five years’ imprisonment.
The sentence is lighter than the prosecutors’ demand of six and a half years in prison and a Rp300 million fine, subsidised by six months’ imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the four other defendants were also found guilty: Yuanita Qomariyah was sentenced to four years in prison and fined Rp50 million, subsidised by 50 days’ imprisonment, while Rudy Adrianus Ririhen, Ansori, and Sugeng Raharjo were each sentenced to three years and six months in prison, each with a Rp50 million fine subsidised by 50 days’ imprisonment.
Sugeng was also ordered to pay restitution of Rp127,800,200, while the restitution owed by Yuanita and Dedy will be reduced by confiscated funds according to the budget year determined by the panel of judges.
Responding to the verdict, Head of the Jember District Prosecution Office Yadyn P said all parties connected to and named in the sosperda ruling will be held criminally accountable.
“We will enforce the ruling of the Surabaya Corruption Court. No one is above the law,” he said.
He added that the case is not yet closed as new suspects may emerge, but that his office would first read the full copy of the verdict.
“It is possible there will be other suspects based on facts revealed during the trial in the alleged sosperda corruption case at the Jember DPRD Secretariat,” said the former KPK investigator and Attorney General’s Office investigator.
Ivan Praditya, Head of the Special Crimes Section at the Jember District Prosecution Office, said the verdict contains special instructions that investigators are obliged to follow up on, so regarding further steps, his office is waiting for the complete copy of the verdict.
