Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was reported killed in an aerial strike by the United States and Israel on Tehran, Iran’s capital, on Saturday 28 February local time. However, the Dolate Bahar party, which backs Ahmadinejad, has denied reports of his death.

“Dolate Bahar hereby announces that reports of the martyrdom of Dr Ahmadinejad in the American-Israeli strike are false,” the party stated on its official website, according to Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) reporting on Monday 2 March 2026.

Denials of Ahmadinejad’s death were also issued by a close adviser to the former Iranian president who served two terms from 2005 to 2013.

The unnamed close adviser, according to Anadolu Agency, stressed that Ahmadinejad is alive and uninjured, despite the joint US-Israeli strike targeting senior Iranian leadership and military infrastructure.

“I have communicated with him. Everything is fine,” Ahmadinejad’s close adviser said when speaking to Anadolu Agency on Sunday 1 March local time.

“A building related to his security team was struck in yesterday’s attack. Three of his guards – members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – have been killed. His own residence was not affected and was not targeted, located 100 metres from that building,” the close adviser explained.

Reports of Ahmadinejad’s death were initially circulated by Iran’s news agency ILNA, which stated that the former president, now 69 years old, had been killed in an aerial strike in the Tehran area.

In its report, ILNA claimed Ahmadinejad died at his home in eastern Tehran along with his security personnel.

These reports could not be independently verified given the current situation in Iran.

Meanwhile, another Iranian news agency, ISNA, published Ahmadinejad’s latest statement regarding the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by the US and Israel in their weekend strike.

Khamenei’s death was announced by Iranian state television on Sunday 1 March evening local time.
