Former Indonesian foreign minister Ali Alatas is due to arrive in
Myanmar on Thursday on an unannounced visit as a special envoy of
United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, diplomats and people
making preparations for his arrival said. Alatas is expected to
meet leaders of Myanmar's military government, including Prime
Minister Gen. Soe Win, during his 3-day stay, they said. The
United Nations has been seeking to promote political
reconciliation in Myanmar, where pro-democracy leader Aung San
Suu Kyi is being held under house arrest. -- AP
