The former Hotel Sultan is being emptied. Inventory is being moved to a warehouse in Cikarang, while the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area is being prepared for development and a major overhaul.

Workers were seen lifting inventory items from the former Hotel Sultan building in the GBK complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday (24/6/2026). The Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg) together with the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK) have begun the process of clearing movable goods from the former Hotel Sultan.

The relocation, which is estimated to take one month, includes luxury items left behind from the property that was once managed by PT Indobuildco under the leadership of Pontjo Sutowo. CNBC Indonesia observed at the location that the items being moved by workers included mattresses, chairs, tables and paintings.

Workers were also seen carrying packaged goods through the corridors of the former Hotel Sultan. The workers appeared to be loading the inventory items from the former Hotel Sultan onto several trucks parked at the site.

It was previously reported that all assets and goods belonging to PT Indobuildco would be inventoried and moved to two warehouses in the Cikarang area, Bekasi Regency, West Java. These items will be stored by the State Secretariat and GBK for the next six months, and PT Indobuildco can coordinate with the State Secretariat, PPKGBK, or the court if it wishes to retrieve the stored goods.

Meanwhile, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, who is also CEO of the Danantara Investment Management Agency, Rosan Roeslani, revealed the fate of the land and building of Hotel Sultan after it was handed over to the state. Rosan disclosed that the building is likely to be demolished.

Rosan revealed that Danantara will eventually take over its management through Injourney. Management by his party will commence after matters at the Ministry of State Secretariat are concluded. The GBK area, including the Hotel Sultan, will become a new icon of Indonesia, necessitating a complete design overhaul.
