Former Head of BPKP East Java Abul Chair Officially Appointed as NTB Regional Secretary
Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Lalu Muhamad Iqbal has appointed Abul Chair as the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of NTB. Abul is the former Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) for East Java (Jatim).
“The appointment of Mr Abul today has been approved by President Prabowo Subianto,” said Iqbal, accompanied by NTB Deputy Governor Indah Dhamayanti Putri and NTB DPRD Chairman Baiq Isvie Rupaeda in the Governor’s Pendopo Hall, on Thursday (9/4/2026).
Abul has officially become the definitive Sekda of NTB after the position was previously filled through interim schemes, acting officials, and daily executors. The role was previously held by Lalu Moh Faozal as Assistant II of the NTB Regional Secretariat until Budi Herman, the Inspector of the NTB Inspectorate.
Iqbal assessed that Abul has an emotional closeness to NTB Province. He hopes Abul can carry out his duties as Sekda of NTB well.
“Our hope is that Mr Abul can carry out the tasks as mandated today,” said Iqbal.
It is known that the selection process for NTB’s Sekda began on 6 December 2025. From a total of 10 registrants, the selection committee then shortlisted three best candidates before finally selecting one name to hold the position of Sekda NTB.
Abul Chair himself is a man of Madura-Sumenep descent born in Jember. He is the grandson of Ruslan Tjakraningrat, the first governor of NTB Province.
13 NTB Echelon II Officials Appointed
NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal also appointed 13 echelon II officials, 13 echelon III officials, and 8 echelon IV officials. Among them is Asrul Sani, appointed as the Director General of RSUD NTB.
Iqbal claimed that all echelon II selection participants had undergone in-depth interviews before being appointed today. “I interviewed the top three until midnight. After that, we immediately sent the names to the National Civil Service Agency,” he said.
According to Iqbal, all officials appointed today will be supervised and evaluated for the next six months. He reminded officials who do not meet performance targets to step down from their positions.
“If in six months the performance targets are not achieved, I apologise, but friends must voluntarily resign from this position,” said Iqbal.
According to Iqbal, the regional government currently faces several challenges, including in terms of budget efficiency.
“The budget is also getting smaller. All OPDs must think about budgets and be efficient. Big dreams must not be stopped by limited budget availability. Changes must be made,” said Iqbal.
