San Francisco (ANTARA) - Harvard University confirmed on Wednesday (25/2) that former Harvard president Lawrence H. Summers will resign from his teaching activities following the university’s review of his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

“In connection with the ongoing review by the University regarding documents relating to Jeffrey Epstein that were recently released by the government, Dean of the Harvard Kennedy School Jeremy Weinstein has accepted the resignation of Professor Lawrence H. Summers from his leadership position as one of the directors of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government,” said Harvard spokesperson Jason Newton in a statement.

“Professor Summers has announced that he will resign from his academic and faculty positions at Harvard at the end of this academic year and will remain on leave until that time,” said Harvard spokesperson Jason Newton.

Summers served as president of Harvard from 2001 to 2006 and previously held several senior positions in government, including as US Secretary of the Treasury and director of the US National Economic Council.

Harvard launched the review after documents of email correspondence between Summers and Epstein over several years were released in 2025. Citing a series of the released emails, US media reported that Summers had been friends with Epstein for many years and had visited Epstein’s private island and travelled on his private jet.
