Former Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda has leaked the contents of a closed-door meeting and discussions between President Prabowo Subianto and the former president and vice-president of the Republic of Indonesia.

The meeting was held behind closed doors at Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday 3 March 2026.

Wirajuda said Prabowo provided updates on the latest situation, particularly regarding the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

‘Particularly relating to what has long been of concern to many of us, namely the most recent developments in the war or attack by the United States and Israel against Iran,’ he told reporters.

Prabowo, he said, specifically discussed the implications of the conflict for Indonesia and the global order.

‘What are the implications for us? For the world, when the world order is no longer effective and there is no longer any avenue for a country that is the victim of military aggression to appeal to anyone, because the United Nations no longer plays a role and the rules-based order is only on paper and there is indeed no coercive power, especially if it relates to the major powers,’ he said.

In addition, Prabowo outlined Indonesia’s position as needing to endure amid the global conflict, including the potential effects of the war on the world economy.

‘Also the potential impact of this war on the global economy, particularly relating to supply, oil and gas; we consider all the effects on us from that perspective,’ he said.

‘This is also a calculation of how long this war will last; previously Trump spoke of a number of days, but now he talks in weeks, and if America deploys ground troops it could prolong the conflict further. The response in the surrounding Middle Eastern countries would also grow and the war could last longer,’ Wirajuda added.

According to Prabowo, this dilemma is not only felt by Indonesia but by many other countries as well. Therefore, Wirajuda said, Prabowo needs to communicate the problems faced by the government today.

‘Beyond that, each of us is trying to provide thoughtful contributions and proposals from the participants,’ he concluded.
