Former Employees of Griya Mahardika Hospital in Bantul Protest Four Months of Unpaid Wages

A group of former employees of Griya Mahardhika Jogja Hospital in Druwo, Bangunharjo, Sewon, Bantul, held a protest in front of the facility, demanding payment of four months’ unpaid wages. Dozens of men and women gathered, some unfurling protest banners with messages such as ‘Working hard is normal, but working hard without pay is not.’

Nurul Fitriah, a representative of the former workers, explained that 36 individuals had filed for termination after not receiving their salaries for four consecutive months in 2026. However, the hospital has yet to settle their outstanding rights. ‘The background to our demonstration today is the demand for unpaid wages that RSU Griya Mahardhika Jogja has not paid for four months,’ she told reporters on Saturday (27/6/2026).

Fitriah stated that formal steps had been taken in accordance with the law, including multiple meetings with hospital management. Two official bipartite negotiations were held, with invitations and minutes submitted to the Bantul Manpower and Transmigration Office. As the company showed no good faith, the case was escalated to the office, leading to two tripartite negotiations. ‘We conveyed our demands, but there was still no good faith from them regarding when they would pay us,’ Fitriah added.

She noted that the hospital had recently invited some representatives for mediation, likely due to the presence of the Bantul Manpower and Transmigration Office as a mediator. ‘We were asked to submit our demands. For instance, what hasn’t been agreed upon is the payment term and date. That was discussed, but we haven’t reached an agreement because it was only our proposal, which will be submitted to the Hospital Director or the board,’ she said.

Meanwhile, hospital representative Putri Agustiningtyas Kurniawati acknowledged that official mediation had taken place and said the hospital did not object to the protest. ‘We have had official mediation. But if former employees want to voice their aspirations, that is their right. It’s fine, we will still respond and accept it,’ she said. Putri added that the hospital will follow the mediator’s guidance and confirmed that a follow-up meeting is planned to address the demands. She assured that the protesters’ demands would be forwarded to the hospital’s board of directors for a decision.
