Former Employee Burgles Boss's Home Over Low Pay, Steals Rp 3 Billion

The Serang Resort Police in Banten have arrested a group of thieves who stole approximately Rp 3 billion, masterminded by a former employee who broke into his ex-boss’s house in Kopo District, Serang Regency. Serang Police Chief AKBP Andri Kurniawan stated on Thursday that the main suspect and his two accomplices were apprehended on Tuesday night, 16 June 2026, after being on the run for two weeks following the burglary on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. “Based on the information we obtained and the results of the investigation, the main suspect’s identity was identified and he was arrested by the Kopo Police Criminal Investigation Unit together with the Serang Police Resmob Team,” he said. The three arrested suspects are SA (29), a resident of Maja District, Lebak Regency, who is a former employee of the victim and the mastermind of the theft, along with AR alias Meong (27) and AH alias Kodok (29), residents of Kopo District, Serang Regency. The police chief explained that the motive behind this reckless act was SA’s resentment. While working at the victim Sumaliah’s (46) fruit distribution business, SA felt dissatisfied because he received a salary that he considered smaller than other employees. Regarding the modus operandi, each suspect had a different role. Suspect SA entered the victim’s house by breaking through the ceiling and then took the money from a cupboard. Meanwhile, AR was tasked with preparing the burglary tools, and AH helped carry away the billions of rupiah. During the search, the police managed to secure a number of pieces of evidence, including remaining cash that had not yet been spent. “Officers found Rp 79,372,000 in a sack hidden above the ceiling of the victim’s house, and seized Rp 1,103,700,000 in cash from suspect SA’s house,” the Police Chief revealed. Police also confiscated several vehicle assets believed to have been purchased using the stolen money, namely a Suzuki pick-up truck, a new Honda PCX motorcycle, and a Yamaha RX King motorcycle. According to the suspects’ confession, the remaining stolen money had also been used to finance the construction of a duck farm shed and to meet daily living expenses.
