A former Microsoft Italy employee, identified as Nour, has levelled serious accusations against his previous employer, claiming the technology giant aided Israel in its attacks on Palestine. Israel has been conducting military operations in Gaza since October 2023, and Nour alleges Microsoft supported these practices and military activities. He accuses the company’s data centres and cloud infrastructure of playing an active role in military operations in Gaza, with the expansion of the data centre network allegedly serving to extend technological surveillance and warfare systems, according to the Economic Times.

Nour’s accusations also reference an August 2025 report by The Guardian, which revealed that Microsoft’s Azure cloud intelligence unit stored a significant volume of intercepted call recordings from Palestinians. The stored data reportedly amounts to 11,500 terabytes, primarily held in Microsoft facilities in the Netherlands with additional storage in Ireland. Sources indicated the information was used to support intelligence analysis and military operations, while Nour claimed Microsoft’s systems played a role in military targeting.

Nour further alleged that following the media investigation in 2025, data was transferred, with Microsoft and Israeli authorities moving intercepted data from European servers to data centres in Israel. The Economic Times noted there is no confirmed evidence to support the data transfer claims. Similar accusations have surfaced previously, and Microsoft has denied its technology is used for mass surveillance of civilians. President Brad Smith previously stated the company found no evidence Azure was used against civilians and had deactivated certain services for a unit within the Israeli defence ministry. Nour worked as a Critical Environment Technician at a Microsoft data centre in Italy for two years before resigning as part of the employee-led ‘No Azure for Apartheid’ campaign, which has staged protests and workplace actions demanding the company end its contracts with the Israeli military.
