Former E. Timor officers given top posts in Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): City police chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman installed yesterday Lt. Col. Pudji Hartanto Iskandar, formerly the chief of East Timor's Bobonaro Police, as the Tangerang Police chief, replacing Lt. Col. Aryanto Budihardjo.

Aryanto has been promoted to deputy chief of the Jakarta On- the-Alert Police Unit.

Yesterday's ceremony was part of a series of replacements among the city's top brass scheduled this week.

Most new officials assigned in the capital were previously posted in East Timor.

City police have not explained the matter.

Lt. Col. Satrya Hari Prasetya, former chief of Baucau Police in East Timor, will be appointed today as head of South Jakarta Police.

Satrya replaces Lt. Col. Yudi Susharyanto, who will be installed as deputy chief of Surakarta Regional Police in Central Java.

On Thursday, former police chief for the East Timor capital of Dili, Lt. Col. Setyanto, will replace North Jakarta Police chief Lt. Col. Rismawan.

The latter will be assigned as head of the Aceh Police Intelligence and Security Unit.

Early on Monday, Noegroho named Lt. Col. Kris Hermanto, former Mobile Brigade commander in the tourist resort of Bali, as the new Mobile Brigade commander in Jakarta.

His predecessor, Col. Sukirno, has been assigned as head of West Java On-the-Alert Police Unit. (edt)
