Former domestic worker arrested over theft of employer's gold worth Rp119 million

Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Criminal Investigation Unit of Banda Aceh Police has arrested a former domestic worker, identified by the initials NH (31), on suspicion of stealing gold jewellery belonging to her former employer, with losses estimated at Rp119 million.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Banda Aceh Police, Commissioner Miftahuda Dizha Fezuono, said in Banda Aceh on Saturday that NH was arrested on Friday (28/8) at around 11.00 WIB after police investigated the victim’s report.

“During the initial examination, NH allegedly admitted to taking the victim’s gold jewellery. The suspect admitted to taking 13 mayam of pure gold,” he said.

Mayam is a unit of gold weight commonly used in Aceh, with one mayam equivalent to approximately 3.3 grams. Thus, 13 mayam is equivalent to approximately 42.9 grams of gold.

NH previously worked as a domestic worker at the home of the victim, Nuraida (50), in Meunasah Papeun Village, Krueng Barona Jaya District, Aceh Besar Regency.

Officers also seized a Honda Vario motorcycle suspected to have been purchased or obtained through pawning using money from the sale of the victim’s gold.

“We also seized two mobile phones, an Oppo A3s and a Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, as well as a Sharp refrigerator suspected to have also been purchased using money from the sale of the victim’s gold,” he said.

Dizha explained that the case began on 4 June 2026 at around 20.00 WIB when the victim realised that some of the gold jewellery she had stored was no longer in its original place.

The victim and her husband then conducted a search and checked several storage places in the bedroom, but some of the jewellery remained missing.

The victim then re-examined the jewellery and matched it with ownership documents. Based on this examination, the victim estimated that 19.5 mayam, or approximately 64.35 grams of pure gold, had gone missing.

Based on the victim’s calculation using the gold price on 24 August 2026, the total loss was estimated at around Rp119 million.

During the investigation, the Jatanras Operations Team obtained information that 13 mayam of gold allegedly taken by NH had been exchanged or sold at two gold shops.

Ten mayam were reportedly exchanged at Om Yan Gold Shop, while the remaining three mayam were exchanged at Mustika Gold Shop.
