Former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights from the SBY Era Highlights Coal Mine Near Residential Area
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) during the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) administration, Denny Indrayana, has highlighted mining activities in South Kalimantan (Kalsel).
The coal mine is located near a residential area in Sungai Taib, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan. This was revealed through a post on his personal Instagram account.
He then directly tagged President Prabowo Subianto in his post, as well as several task forces, including the Task Force for the Orderly Management of Forest Areas and the Task Force for Handling Illegal Mining.
“How is it possible that there is a coal mining permit so close to a residential area? The location of this video is precisely in the Sungai Taib area, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, my birthplace,” Denny wrote, quoted from his Instagram account, Thursday (February 26, 2026).
Denny believes that such mining activities are often overlooked because they are allegedly coordinated. He also stated that all elements, from authorities, NGOs, the media to local governments, seem to be silent about the issue.
In fact, the port used for mining activities is reportedly owned by a Regional State-Owned Enterprise (BUMD).
According to him, this condition then makes residents live in fear due to the potential for environmental damage and threats of disasters such as landslides.
“Only the residents are worried because they are haunted by the threat of natural damage and landslides. Is there any law enforcement that can still be expected, or has everything been bought with money?” he added.
