Former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu's Remains Transported to Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The remains of former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu were transported to Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery following a ceremonial service at the Ministry of Defence in Central Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026.
The ceremonial service for the late Ryamizard began at 11:04 WIB in front of the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) Hall building. Deputy Minister of Defence Donny Ermawan Taufanto served as the ceremony inspector, accompanied by Ryamizard’s family members. The proceedings proceeded orderly, solemnly, and in accordance with military ceremonial protocols.
An ambulance carrying Ryamizard’s coffin departed for Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery at approximately 11:20 WIB.
Ryamizard Ryacudu was born in Palembang, South Sumatra, on 12 April 1950. He graduated from the Military Academy (Akmil) in 1974 with an infantry specialty. Throughout his life, Ryamizard dedicated himself to serving the nation through various strategic assignments within the military and government, with unwavering loyalty, dedication, and a strong spirit of service.
His highest service in the Army was marked by his appointment as Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD) from 2002 to 2005. Under his leadership, the Army continued to strengthen professionalism, discipline, and unit readiness in safeguarding national sovereignty and the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia.
The four-star retired general later served as Defence Minister during President Joko Widodo’s first term from 2014 to 2019. The Army expressed prayers that Ryamizard may find a place of honour with God, be forgiven for all faults and sins, and that his family be granted strength, resilience, and acceptance in this time of loss.
