Former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu to Be Laid to Rest at Kalibata National Heroes' Cemetery Today

The remains of former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu will be laid to rest at Kalibata National Heroes’ Cemetery in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026. The military funeral ceremony will be presided over by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin as Ceremonial Inspector.

‘The late’s remains will be laid to rest through a military funeral ceremony at Kalibata National Heroes’ Cemetery as a state tribute to a soldier and statesman who dedicated his life to Indonesia,’ said Brigadier General Rico Sirait, Chief of the Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defence’s General Secretariat, to Kompas.com on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

He added that the lying-in-state ceremony would be led by the Deputy Defence Minister as Ceremonial Inspector.

‘As a final tribute to the late’s service to the nation, the Ministry of Defence will conduct a farewell ceremony and lying-in-state for General TNI (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu. The remains are scheduled to arrive at the Ministry of Defence and will then be laid in state in front of the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Hall, MoD, on Monday, 1 June 2026, at 7:30 AM WIB,’ he said.

The remains will then be transported to Kalibata National Heroes’ Cemetery in Jakarta.

Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital in Jakarta on Sunday, 31 May 2026, at 2:03 PM WIB.

Born in Palembang, South Sumatra, on 12 April 1950, Ryamizard graduated from the Military Academy (Akmil) in 1974 in the infantry branch. Before becoming Defence Minister, his final position in the military was Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD), which he held for three years from 2002 to 2005.
