Former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu Laid to Rest at Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery
The Indonesian Ministry of Defence held a ceremonial tribute and lying-in-state for former Defence Minister General (Ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu today. Following the ceremony, his remains were transported to Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery for burial.
On Monday, 1 June 2026 at 11:04 WIB, the ceremony was led by Deputy Defence Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto. A coffin draped in the red and white flag emerged from the Ministry’s Hening Room for the honouring procession, with numerous government officials, military figures, and family members present to pay their final respects.
Deputy Defence Minister Donny stated during the ceremony: ‘On behalf of the nation, the people, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces, we receive the remains of the late General (Ret) Dr (Hon) Ryamizard Ryacudu. Subsequently, the remains will be transported to the Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery in South Jakarta for a military burial.’
Around 11:15 WIB, the remains were taken by hearse to TMP Kalibata. Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away at the age of 76 on Sunday, 31 May 2026, while receiving treatment at the Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta. His military career concluded with his tenure as Army Chief of Staff during the administration of Indonesia’s fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri.
