Jakarta - The body of former Defence Minister Juwono Sudarsono is scheduled to be buried at the Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery (TMP Kalibata) in South Jakarta on Sunday (29/3/2026). Before the burial, the body will lie in state at the Quiet Room of the Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) in Jakarta at 07.30 WIB. Afterwards, the body will be transported to TMP Kalibata for burial in a military ceremony led by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. According to the website of the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence, Juwono Sudarsono, born in Ciamis, West Java, on 5 March 1942, is known as a professional figure in the fields of defence and international relations. Juwono obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Indonesia (UI) in 1965, and pursued postgraduate studies to earn an M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1970. Juwono Sudarsono first joined the government as Minister of State for the Environment in Soeharto’s Seventh Development Cabinet. During President BJ Habibie’s Reform Development Cabinet, Juwono Sudarsono served as Minister of Education and Culture. He then served as Defence Minister under Indonesia’s fourth President, Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), from 1999 to 2000. After that, the position of Defence Minister was held by Mahfud MD and then Matori Abdul Djalil during President Megawati Soekarnoputri’s era. During the tenure of Indonesia’s sixth President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Juwono was again entrusted as Defence Minister in the United Indonesia Cabinet I from 29 October 2004 until 26 October 2009.
