Former Defence Minister Juwono Sudarsono Passes Away

Jakarta – Former Defence Minister under Indonesia’s fourth President Abdurrahman Wahid, known as Gus Dur, and sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, known as SBY, Juwono Sudarsono, has reportedly passed away.

The news was confirmed by Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defence Information Bureau at the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Defence, on Saturday, 28 March 2026.

Rico stated that the Professor of International Relations at the University of Indonesia (UI) passed away on Saturday afternoon, 28 March 2026, at 1:45 PM WIB, at Pondok Indah Hospital in Jakarta.

He added that the funeral for the former Minister of Education and Culture under Indonesia’s third President B.J. Habibie is scheduled for Sunday, 29 March 2026, at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta.

It is known that, in addition to serving as Defence Minister and Minister of Education and Culture, Juwono also held the position of Minister of State for the Environment under Indonesia’s first President Soeharto.
