During President BJ Habibie’s Reform Development Cabinet, Juwono Sudarsono served as Minister of Education and Culture. Then, he served as Defence Minister during Indonesia’s fourth President, Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), for the period 1999–2000.
