Former Covid-19 Isolation Centre in South Tangerang Donated to the TNI Training Command
SOUTH TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - The site formerly occupied by the ‘Rumah Lawan Covid-19’ isolation centre in Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten, is now being repurposed by the TNI.
The Mayor of South Tangerang, Benyamin Davnie, explained that the land has been donated to the Komando Pembinaan Doktrin, Pendidikan, dan Latihan (Kodiklat), and will not be put up for auction.
“It is not being auctioned, but donated to the TNI Kodiklat,” Benyamin told Kompas.com via text message on Saturday (16/5/2026).
“Yes, it used to be owned by the local government. Now, the TNI is repurposing it for agricultural use,” he said when met by Kompas.com at the location on Saturday.
According to him, the demolition of the former isolation centre has been ongoing for almost a month.
“It has been almost a month since the demolition began. Yes, it will expand the TNI’s land area,” he said.
For your information, the ‘Rumah Lawan Covid-19’ (RLC), which used to be an isolation centre for patients, has now been demolished.
As observed by Kompas.com at the location on Saturday, the buildings and tents that used to house patients have been completely dismantled.
Debris, including wood, walls, and remnants of toilets, can be seen scattered near the former location of the buildings.
Construction of a perimeter wall is currently underway on the land.
The perimeter wall being built is approximately 100 meters from the rear of the office building of the Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Department of the City of South Tangerang.
In addition to the perimeter wall construction, part of the land has been converted into an open agricultural area.
The agricultural land is divided into neat rows of raised beds and covered with black plastic mulch.
The greenhouse building on the land appears to be in good condition and is being used as a resting place for workers.
In addition to the agricultural land, a chicken coop is also located on one part of the site.
