Former Constitutional Court Justice Arief Hidayat Receives Emeritus Professor Title from Borobudur University
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Constitutional Court (MK) Justice Arief Hidayat received the title of Emeritus Professor in Constitutional Law from Borobudur University on Saturday (2/5/2026).
“This is a form of recognition by the university of his loyalty, integrity, and extraordinary contributions that transcend age limits. This title is given because the university still greatly needs his thoughts, wisdom, and guidance,” stated the Rector of Borobudur University, Bambang Bernanthos, at Borobudur University on Saturday.
Bambang said that Arief is a highly dedicated individual to law, particularly constitutional law and the constitution.
“He has served as a bridge between theory in the classroom and complex legal practice at national and international levels,” Bambang added.
Following the conferral of this title, Arief is expected to continue providing his insights for the advancement of knowledge and the Indonesian nation.
Arief Hidayat also had the opportunity to deliver a scientific oration titled “Indonesia’s Rule of Law State is Not a Statute State.”
According to Arief, if Indonesia wishes to become just, prosperous, and welfare-oriented, several aspects need to be fulfilled.
“To achieve such a condition for Indonesia, like it or not, we must improve the governance practices of state administration, both at the national level and in regions and villages,” said Arief.
The conferral ceremony for Arief Hidayat’s title was attended by several rectors and professors from other universities.
From former 5th President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri, former Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, former Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly, to Head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office Asep Nana Mulyana.
Meanwhile, several former fellow Constitutional Court justices of Arief were also present, including Suhartoyo and Saldi Isra.
