Former Condongcatur Village Head in Sleman, Reno Candra Sangaji, a suspect in a corruption case involving village treasury land in Padukuhan Gandok, has been detained. He exploited his position as village head to lease village treasury land illegally. This was conveyed by the Head of Sub-Directorate 3 of the Yogyakarta Regional Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate, AKBP Haris Munandar Hasyim, during a press conference at the Yogyakarta Regional Police Headquarters on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Haris stated that the tenants of the village treasury land felt confident because it was village officials who were leasing the land. “Yes, it is like that (tenants felt secure because the village head was the one leasing it), because they are village officials after all,” Haris revealed. Not only that, the land, covering approximately 1,900 square metres, was subdivided into around 17 units. Afterwards, Reno promised that the land could be leased in perpetuity, passing down through generations. “There was an agreement, it could be extended. The promise from the suspect was that it could be passed down hereditarily. Currently, 10 families are living there out of the 17 plots,” said Haris. Haris did not detail the rental value of each plot. However, he confirmed the rental value started from tens of millions of rupiah. “Yes, yes (the rental fee was between IDR 50 million and IDR 100 million per person),” he answered. Furthermore, the money from leasing the village treasury land went into his personal pocket. From the proceeds of leasing the village treasury land, Reno has already pocketed more than one billion rupiah. “The total is equivalent to IDR 1.3 billion, if I am not mistaken, which has been collected from all 17 tenants. It did not go to the state treasury, but directly to each tenant,” Haris explained. The money from the illegal village treasury land leases has reportedly been returned to the respective tenants. The fate of the tenants now awaits a court decision. “We are waiting for the court ruling. Perhaps due to humanitarian factors, we are still awaiting a decision regarding the assets, whether they will be confiscated for the state or otherwise. We will follow up later regarding the buildings that have already been erected there,” he elaborated. In this case, the police have seized a number of pieces of evidence. Reno himself has been detained since Monday (22/6). “The evidence we have seized includes land lease agreement documents, proof of compensation and rental payments, and other documents related to this case,” he detailed. In a separate case, Reno has also been named a suspect by the prosecutor’s office for the misuse of village treasury land in Padukuhan Pringwulung. In this case, investigators from the Yogyakarta High Prosecutor’s Office have also charged a former Jagabaya of Sleman. “Today, Tuesday, 30 June 2026, the investigative team from the Special Crimes Division of the Yogyakarta High Prosecutor’s Office, based on two sufficient pieces of evidence, has elevated the status of two witnesses with the initials K (Former Jagabaya) and RCS (Village Head of Condongcatur) to suspects,” explained the Head of Legal Information for the Yogyakarta High Prosecutor’s Office, Langgeng Prabowo, in a statement on Tuesday (30/6). In this case, investigators have also conducted an audit of state financial losses calculation by the Yogyakarta Financial and Development Supervisory Agency for the period January 2017 to March 2025. Reno and K are considered to have allowed and approved the lease of village treasury land to other parties without the permission of the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. “As a result of the suspects’ actions, it has caused state financial losses to the Condongcatur Village Government and provided benefits to unauthorised parties amounting to IDR 4,224,342,510.90,” Langgeng stated. Reno is now awaiting the legal process against him. The Yogyakarta High Prosecutor’s Office has not detained Reno because he is already detained in another case. Reno and the former Jagabaya are charged under the primary charge of Article 2, Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55, Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code. The subsidiary charge is Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55, Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
