Former BIN Chief Hendropriyono: I Never Ordered Anyone to Topple the Government
Former head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), General TNI (Ret.) A.M. Hendropriyono, has refuted claims that he is behind anti-government demonstration movements. The assertion was made in response to circulating accusations linking him to movements that harshly criticise the government.
“I emphasise that I and those close to me are not involved, do not support, and have never ordered anyone to carry out activities aimed at overthrowing a legitimate government,” Hendropriyono said in a statement on Friday (19/6/2026).
According to him, the expression of opinions in public within a democratic country must remain within legal and constitutional corridors. Any accusations linking him or those around him to an agenda to topple the government without valid evidence are hoaxes and slander.
Hendropriyono revealed that he has long dedicated himself to the country through various assignments. “My principle remains the same: safeguarding the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and national stability,” he said.
He added that criticism of government policy in any democratic country must not aim to seize or overthrow power. “That is not a path I believe in,” he stated.
He also urged the public not to easily believe hoaxes and to always check facts before disseminating information. “I have never and will never be behind any demonstration to overthrow the government,” he said.
According to Hendropriyono, his commitment to the Soldier’s Oath has been upheld continuously from his active service days until his current retired status. The commitment he refers to is safeguarding the country, not destroying it.
