Former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) for Operational Fulfilment of Nutrition, Sony Sonjaya, remained completely silent after undergoing an intensive nine-hour examination at the Junior Attorney General’s Office for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) on Thursday (18/6/2026). Sony was questioned as a suspect in an alleged corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Based on observations at the location, Sony emerged from the examination building at 19.12 Western Indonesia Time wearing a pink detainee vest typical of the Attorney General’s Office. With his hands cuffed and under tight escort, Sony was immediately led to a detention vehicle. He made no statement whatsoever when journalists pressed him with questions regarding the examination material or the involvement of other parties in the scandal that has caused state losses. Despite his silence following today’s examination, Sony Sonjaya is known to have applied to become a justice collaborator (JC). The request was submitted through his legal counsel, Krisna Murti, to Jampidsus on Monday (8/6). Krisna revealed that his client wishes to clearly expose the parties involved in the mismanagement of the MBG programme. Sony claims that he has been used as a ‘shield’ or the party deemed most responsible for the buying and selling of kitchen points for the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG). ‘All this time he has been cornered as if he sold the kitchen points, as if he manipulated them. Whereas according to Mr Sony, he was under pressure, there was attention from other parties,’ Krisna stated previously. Sony’s move to apply for JC status is predicted to be key for Jampidsus investigators in tracing the flow of funds and the involvement of intellectual actors beyond the five suspects already named.
