Former Bengkulu City Health Department Head Sentenced to 1 Year and 4 Months in Prison

The five defendants in the Labkesda corruption case have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of committing corruption as charged by the public prosecutor. Bengkulu (ANTARA) - The Bengkulu Corruption Court sentenced former Head of the Bengkulu City Health Department, Joni Haryadi Thabrani, to one year and four months in prison and a fine of Rp100 million, subsidiary 60 days, related to the corruption case in the construction of the regional health laboratory in 2023. “The five defendants (Labkesda corruption case) have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of committing the criminal act of corruption as per the subsidiary charges of the public prosecutor,” said the Chief Judge of the Bengkulu Corruption Court (PN Tipikor), Achmadsyah Ade Mury, in Bengkulu on Monday. For the other four defendants, namely the Technical Activity Implementer (PPTK) Doni Iswanto, a sentence of one year and four months in prison and a fine of Rp100 million, subsidiary 60 days’ imprisonment, was imposed. Next, the implementing contractor Joli Okta Riansyah and Rizal Mahlefi, who acted as planning consultants and project supervisors, were given one year and four months in prison and a fine of Rp100 million, subsidiary 60 days’ imprisonment. Achmadsyah stated that the aggravating factors include the defendants not supporting the government’s efforts to eradicate corruption. Meanwhile, the mitigating factors are that the defendants were polite during the trial, have no prior convictions, admitted their guilt, and are the breadwinners of their families. Previously, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Bengkulu District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) demanded a sentence of two years in prison and a fine of Rp100 million, subsidiary 100 days, for former Head of the City Health Department Joni Haryadi Thabrani. For defendants Joli Okta Riansyah and Rizal Mahlefi, a sentence of one year and six months in prison and a fine of Rp100 million, subsidiary 60 days’ imprisonment, was demanded. In addition, the Bengkulu District Prosecutor’s Office has received the return of state losses from several defendants in the Labkesda construction corruption case in Bengkulu City, namely Akhmad Basir, who acted as a broker or intermediary, amounting to Rp695 million. Next, from the Technical Activity Implementer (PPTK) Doni Iswanto, Rp181 million; the project implementing contractor defendant Joli Okta Riansyah, Rp10.20 million; former Head of the Bengkulu City Health Department Joni Haryadi Thabrani, Rp105 million; and the Work Supervisor Consultant Riza Mahlefi, Rp10 million.
