Former Bekasi Legislative Candidate Identified as Mastermind Behind Murder of South Korean National
Bekasi Regency Police have identified a former candidate for the Bekasi Regency Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), known by the initials SJ, as the mastermind behind the murder of a South Korean national, BCS, in Kampung Buaran, Lambangsari Village, South Tambun District.
The Head of the Bekasi Metro Police, Commissioner Sumarni, explained that investigators have named two suspects in the case: a woman identified as SJ and a man identified as HW.
“The two perpetrators suspected of committing the murder are SJ and HW,” Sumarni stated during the case disclosure at the Bekasi Metro Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
Sumarni further explained that SJ is the victim’s former wife and is suspected of planning the murder. Police stated that SJ acted as the initiator who recruited HW to carry out the plan. “SJ played the role of planning, providing the idea, and inviting HW to perform the act,” she said.
Meanwhile, HW acted as the executor who allegedly took the victim’s life. Police arrested SJ first on Friday (29/5), subsequently expanding the investigation to identify HW’s involvement in the case. “The perpetrator HW was successfully arrested in the Jatimekar area, Jatiasih District, Bekasi City,” said Sumarni.
Following interrogation, HW confessed to murdering the victim, BCS. This confession was supported by several pieces of evidence and the findings of the investigators.
The murder, which occurred on the night of Wednesday (26/5), drew significant public attention after the South Korean national was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his residence in South Tambun.
Both suspects are currently in custody facing further legal proceedings. Police are still investigating the motive behind the murder and exploring the possibility of other facts emerging during the investigation. For their actions, SJ and HW face charges under Articles 459 and 458 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) as regulated by Law Number 1 of 2022, carrying a potential sentence of life imprisonment or 20 years in prison.
