Former Bekasi BUMD Director Detained After Evading Summons Three Times

The Bekasi District Prosecutor’s Office in West Java has detained a former Business Director of the regional-owned enterprise (BUMD) Perumda Tirta Bhagasasi, identified by the initials AEZ (35), as a suspect in an alleged corruption case concerning the installation of customer connections for the 2024-2025 period, resulting in state losses of Rp4.5 billion.

Head of the Bekasi District Prosecutor’s Office, Semeru, stated in Cikarang on Monday that investigators had detained suspect AEZ for a period of 20 days at the Class IIA Cikarang Penitentiary, effective from today.

AEZ is the third suspect in the case. Two other suspects, identified as MSB and RF, who served as heads of marketing at the municipally owned company, were previously detained on 30 July 2026.

Prosecutors suspect the three individuals engaged in acts that benefited or enriched themselves or others, thereby causing state financial losses of Rp4.5 billion. According to investigators, the marketing division set the cost for network installation and new customer connections at a figure exceeding the company’s official provisions.

Prospective customers requiring water services subsequently paid these fees into a special account that investigators believe was set up to collect the payments. The prosecution suspects the money deposited into this account was then used for personal interests, benefiting the parties involved.

‘The suspect, through his legal counsel, subsequently conveyed that he would comply with the investigator’s summons today, and after being examined, we immediately detained him,’ Semeru said.

Investigators have charged the three suspects under Article 12 letter e in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law and related provisions in the Criminal Code. The Bekasi District Prosecutor’s Office is now preparing to transfer the case files to the public prosecutor for further legal proceedings.
