Former Barcelona Player Miralem Pjanic on the Sound of Intercepted Iranian Missiles in Dubai
Former Barcelona player Miralem Pjanic, formerly a key midfielder for Juventus and AS Roma, has shared his experience living amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Pjanic currently resides in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and says he has heard limited military activity in the airspace around him. Tensions between Iran and several regional countries have spiked in recent days. This has impacted foreign residents, including European footballers who choose to pursue careers or settle in the Gulf after leaving Serie A. The 35-year-old former midfielder revealed that life in the city centre can feel tense at times. “I live near the city centre. Sometimes you can sense something unusual in the air, and you can hear the sound of Iranian missiles being intercepted,” he told Gazzetta. Although the thuds of interceptor explosions can be heard, he asked his relatives in Europe not to panic. He feels local authorities provide maximum protection for every city resident. “But we are safe and continually reassured by the authorities,” he said. In addition to discussing security, the former Juventus star also highlighted the large amount of misinformation circulating abroad. “I receive messages and notices from friends living in Europe, and almost all of them are fake news,” he continued. Pjanic recently decided to retire after completing the 2024-2025 season with CSKA Moscow. He is now pursuing a new career in the world of football, but not as a coach, rather as a professional football agent.
