Formappi Urges DPR to Form Special Inquiry Committee on Febrie Case
Formappi researcher Lucius Karus has urged the House of Representatives (DPR) to form a special inquiry committee (pansus angket) to investigate the handling of the corruption case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. He stated that the DPR possesses the right of inquiry to conduct such an investigation. This statement was made in response to Commission III’s decision to form a supervisory working committee (panja) for three corruption cases implicating Febrie, including the PT Asabri case. According to Lucius, the working committee’s scope is too limited as it only reports to Commission III. ‘The working committee is inadequate to investigate a matter involving two law enforcement agencies simultaneously, namely the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office,’ Lucius said during a discussion in Kemang, South Jakarta, on Sunday, 26 July 2026.
He also noted that there has been no update on when the supervisory working committee will commence its work, despite public anticipation for progress in the case. ‘Time is passing. It should be critical,’ he remarked. Lucius reminded the DPR to conduct the working committee’s activities transparently, warning that the public could become suspicious if there is no information regarding the progress of the investigation. ‘The most important thing is that the DPR must be able to explain what caused the police and the Attorney General’s Office to clash over this Febrie case,’ he said.
The Attorney General’s Office has detained Febrie at the KPK detention centre in South Jakarta following an examination by a special team regarding alleged money laundering crimes in the PT Asabri case on Friday, 24 July 2026. Previously, Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman stated that the working committee would monitor the ongoing handling of the corruption case, describing it as a mega-corruption case due to the substantial amount of evidence seized. During a special meeting, all party factions agreed to form the supervisory working committee and appointed Habiburokhman as its chairman. He committed to overseeing the legal process and urged that Febrie’s resignation as Jampidsus not halt the ongoing law enforcement efforts.
In this case, the Attorney General’s Office issued a new investigation order specifically targeting money laundering, linked to the discovery of 74 kilograms of gold and foreign currency worth hundreds of billions of rupiah at Febrie’s residence in Sentul, Bogor. This marks the fourth investigation order issued in the handling of Febrie’s case, following previous orders related to alleged corruption at PT Krakatau Steel, coal governance at a power plant in Sumatra, and the PT Asabri case. Febrie has been named a suspect in the PT Asabri corruption case, charged under multiple articles of the Corruption Eradication Law and the Money Laundering Law. A private sector individual, Don Ritto, has also been named a suspect in the case.
