Kuningan, West Java - The Ministry of Forestry is optimistic about achieving the deforestation reduction target in line with the Indonesia FOLU Net Sink 2030 goals and the Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). “We remain optimistic that the targets in the Second NDC will be achieved by 2030. All ministry instruments are deployed to ensure forest restoration and protection proceed as planned,” said Project Manager for FOLU NC 2&3 at the Ministry of Forestry, Arga Paradita Sutiyono, during the discussion forum “Synergy of Indonesian Women for Indonesia FOLU Net Sink 2030” held by the Ministry of Forestry at Gunung Ciremai National Park, Kuningan, West Java, on Monday evening. He explained that the main challenges towards 2030 lie in controlling deforestation and forest degradation. Meanwhile, the ministry’s vision and mission is to ensure deforestation rates are lower than the baseline of 0.31 million hectares per year. “We target reducing the figure to 0.3 or 0.2 something million hectares by 2030,” he stated. However, he emphasised that the increase is not caused by massive land clearing, but rather influenced by forest fires and other natural dynamics. The government also applies the net deforestation concept, where logging in plantation forests is not considered deforestation as long as replanting is carried out. Thus, achieving the FOLU Net Sink target is viewed not merely as a project programme, but as the mainstream in every activity funded by the state budget at the Ministry of Forestry. The Synergy of Indonesian Women for Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 event was held from 11-13 May 2026 in the Gunung Ciremai National Park area, Kuningan, West Java. This educational and inspirational activity, initiated by the Bureau of Public Relations and Foreign Cooperation at the Ministry of Forestry, highlights the role of Indonesian women in concrete actions for forest management and achieving the FOLU Net Sink 2030 target, while building a positive narrative on forestry policies through public communication. The Ministry of Forestry hopes this event becomes a momentum to strengthen synergies among ministries/institutions, stakeholders, and the public in supporting the implementation of Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030. In this regard, effective public communication approaches and sustainable collaboration are expected to build more comprehensive understanding and broader support for national forestry priority agendas.
