Forestry Minister: Stakeholder synergy key to realising high-integrity carbon trading
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, stated that synergy and the active involvement of stakeholders are crucial factors in realising high-integrity carbon trading.
“High-integrity carbon trading can only be achieved if we involve various stakeholders,” the Minister said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
This follows the Ministry of Forestry’s official launch of the Minister of Forestry’s Approval regarding the issuance of carbon units through the Non-Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificate (Non SPE-GRK) scheme.
The acceleration of this technical regulation involves relevant stakeholders, ranging from strategic ministries and agencies, such as the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs and the Financial Services Authority (OJK), to representatives from partner nations.
He noted that this launch marks the beginning of more concrete forestry carbon trading through projects that are now ready for the market.
Minister Raja Antoni stated that this acceleration is a result of the leadership and full support of President Prabowo Subianto towards the development of the green economy.
“All of this is being implemented due to the very strong leadership of President Prabowo Subianto. What was once merely a dream is now becoming concrete; what was once only a possibility is now becoming a reality,” he said.
During the launch, the Ministry of Forestry also introduced four carbon projects ready for implementation, consisting of three projects within Forest Area Utilisation Business Permit (PBPH) areas and one Social Forestry (PS) project.
Minister Raja Antoni stated that the expansion of carbon trading no longer targets only concession areas but is also being implemented in conservation areas, such as Way Kambas, and social forestry areas.
According to him, this policy serves as evidence that the government intends for the benefits of carbon trading to be felt more widely.
“As long as the orientation is for the welfare of the people, we will execute it. Therefore, today we are launching three PBPH projects and one social forestry project as a symbol of our commitment not only to large entities but also to the small-scale players,” he said.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the government has established communication with dozens of major global companies that hope Indonesia can become one of the world’s carbon trading hubs.
“We are also preparing a monitoring system to ensure that Indonesia’s forestry carbon maintains high integrity,” he added.
