Forestry Minister: National Forestry Plan Implementation as Reference for Forest Management

The Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) has stated that the implementation of the National Forestry Plan (RKTN) for 2011–2030 is being promoted as a unified reference for national, provincial, and Forest Management Unit (KPH) level planning. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said in Jakarta on Monday that the RKTN is directed to ensure forest management can simultaneously meet three interests: maintaining forest sustainability, supporting green economic development and growth, and delivering tangible benefits for community welfare. “My message is simple: be consistent. Be consistent with what we have planned. Only by implementing this plan properly and consistently can we realise the President’s vision of balancing the economy and ecology,” said Minister Antoni. The focus is now on translating the policy into regional forestry planning and on-the-ground implementation, following the enactment of the Minister of Forestry Regulation Number 8 of 2026 on the National Forestry Plan 2011–2030 on 21 April 2026, and its promulgation on 30 April 2026. Under the regulation, the RKTN serves as a guideline for the formulation of Provincial Forestry Plans, forest management plans at the unit level, indicative maps for forest area utilisation and use, work plans for forest utilisation businesses, and development and control activities in the forestry sector. The RKTN also acts as a reference for cross-sectoral coordination in the utilisation of forest areas. The latest RKTN introduces a forest management paradigm that is more adaptive to development dynamics. The land sharing and land sparing approaches allow various interests within forest areas to be managed in a more integrated manner without compromising the primary function of the area. Minister Antoni added that this approach is directed to reconcile ecological, economic, and social functions within a single sustainable management framework.
