Jakarta (ANTARA) - Forestry Minister (Menhut) Raja Juli Antoni has assured accountability and transparency in the carbon trading process following the issuance of Forestry Ministerial Regulation (Permenhut) No. 6 of 2026 on Procedures for Carbon Trading through Greenhouse Gas Emission Offsets in the Forestry Sector. “Through this Permenhut, the government, in this case the Ministry of Forestry, presents a clearer, more transparent, and trustworthy regulatory framework to support carbon trading in the forestry sector for businesses, communities, and global partners,” said Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni. The Forestry Minister in Jakarta on Wednesday stated that one of the main breakthroughs in this regulation is the clear pathway from start to finish, beginning with mitigation implementation, measurement and calculation of carbon units, validation and verification, recording in the national system, to carbon trading transactions. All stages, said the Forestry Minister during the Socialisation of Permenhut No. 6 of 2026 in Jakarta, now have definite time limits, thereby providing certainty for business actors and forest managing communities. Furthermore, emphasising that integrity is key, the government in this regulation introduces a system to prevent double carbon counting. “With the approach called nesting, we ensure that every emission reduction is truly calculated fairly and without overlap. This is not just a technical matter. It is about trust. Without trust, there will be no market. Without a market, there will be no incentive to preserve forests,” he explained. “Thus, the economic benefits generated will go hand in hand with ecological and social benefits,” stated Forestry Minister Raja Antoni.
