Forest and land fires (karhutla) around the operational area of PT Bumi Siak Pusako (BSP) continue to be addressed. A joint team is still carrying out preventive measures to stop the flames from spreading towards several of BSP’s oil wells.

PT Bumi Siak Pusako Director Robi Junipa went directly to the field during the firefighting activities, and SKK Migas Sumbagut was also present to monitor the handling of the forest fires on the ground.

Robi Junipa reported that as of Wednesday (26/8/2026) at 02.00 WIB, the fire south of the NEB#08 well had been successfully extinguished.

“The fire near the NEB#08 well to the south has been successfully extinguished,” Robi said on Thursday (27/8/2026).

However, Robi continued, the fire is still burning north of the NEB#08 location. The distance of the flames is estimated at around 150 to 200 metres from the well site.

To prevent the fire from spreading to the NEB#03 well, Robi said, the team is also constructing canals. The NEB#03 location is approximately 600 metres from the fire point, or about one kilometre from NEB#08.

PT Bumi Siak Pusako has established a Cross-Department Forest Fire Task Force to ensure, detect, respond to, coordinate and control forest fires, especially in its operational area and surroundings. In addition to direct firefighting, Robi explained, BSP has deployed supporting equipment consisting of two fire protection units with capacities of 5,000 KL and 10 KL, as well as one vacuum truck with a capacity of 5 KL for clean water supply from DWO Support.

“Around 30 personnel have been deployed in the handling effort. They come from various internal BSP elements, namely HSE, Security, OSZ, CC&T, EA, Production Operations, and DWO Support,” Robi said.

Meanwhile, the firefighting team from BPBD Siak has returned from the location. However, personnel from Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA) remain on site to assist with monitoring and handling around the NEB#08 fire location.

Robi confirmed that security and monitoring continue to be carried out to prevent the flames from approaching the vital oil well infrastructure, especially amid land conditions that are prone to burning.

As is known, the fire had spread across peatland around the Zamrud National Park in Siak Regency, Riau, making the situation increasingly critical. Not only because the fire is in an area that is difficult to access, but also because the flames were approaching the vital oil well infrastructure belonging to PT Bumi Siak Pusako (BSP).

Siak Regent Dr. Afni Zulkifli went directly to lead the handling on the ground. Together with the District Military Commander, Police Chief, SKK Migas Sumbagut, BSP management, Manggala Agni, BPBD, Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA), and private firefighting teams, they worked together to bring the fire under control.
