Forest Fire Update: BNPB Reports Hotspots in West Kalimantan Reach 7,377

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has provided the latest update regarding forest and land fires (karhutla) occurring across Indonesia.

The Acting Head of the BNPB Centre for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication, Berton SP Panjaitan, explained that hotspots in the Kalimantan region have relatively increased. He noted that West Kalimantan province has experienced a significant rise in hotspots, reaching 7,3cap77 points.

“The number of hotspots has relatively increased. In West Kalimantan, there has been a significant increase, whereas in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, they have relatively decreased,” Berton stated during a press conference on Monday, 31 August 2026.

Meanwhile, fire spots in West Kalimantan have also risen to 104 points. BNPB reported that visibility for residents in West Kalimantan province has dropped below 1 km.

Berton mentioned that hotspots in Central Kalimantan have relatively decreased to 5,244 points. However, fire spots in that area have increased to 72 points, with visibility also falling to less than 1 km.

In South Kalimantan, hotspots have decreased to 504 points. Nevertheless, fire spots in the region have risen to 55 points, with visibility measuring less than 2 km.

“However, if we observe the fire spot data across these three provinces, we find an upward trend in the number of active fire spots,” he concluded.
