Forest Fire Task Force Extinguishes 8.5 Hectares of Land Fires in Sungai Rotan

The Forest and Land Fire Task Force of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra, has successfully extinguished 8.5 hectares of forest and land fires in Suka Maju Village, Sungai Rotan District, bringing the incident to a complete end. “Alhamdulillah, after nine days, the forest and land fires in Suka Maju Village were successfully extinguished on Sunday afternoon (2/8),” said Alvi Gumara, Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Muara Enim, when contacted from Palembang on Monday. He stated that the total area of land successfully extinguished reached 8.5 hectares after the fires began on Friday (24/7) at 1.10 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. The firefighting effort involved personnel from the BPBD TRC Gelumbang post, Manggala Agni, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the Indonesian National Police, the Fire Care Community (MPA), and local residents. The task force fought the fires via land routes using equipment including one four-wheeled vehicle, 11 two-wheeled vehicles, and one fire engine, tackling the flames from a distance of approximately 27 kilometres from the Gelumbang forest and land fire post. A water bombing helicopter had also previously extinguished fires in Suka Menang Village, Gelumbang District, meaning there are currently no remaining fire hotspots in Muara Enim.
