Forest Fire Erupts on Mount Paseban in Bandung Regency
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – The West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has reported a land and forest fire in the Mount Paseban area, Kutawaringin District, Bandung Regency, on Monday afternoon (27 July 2026). Officers are still working to extinguish the flames.
Hadi Rahmat, Expert Public Relations Officer at BPBD West Java, confirmed that a land and forest fire had occurred in Kutawaringin District, Bandung Regency, on Monday (27 July 2026). He said officers were still struggling to extinguish the flames that remain alight.
“The forest and land fire is suspected to have been triggered by human error, accompanied by wind,” he said on Monday (27 July 2026). He added that officers were still working to put out the fire.
Earlier, the West Java Climate Station of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) revealed that West Java has entered the dry season. It stated that the dry season has arrived earlier than usual and is expected to last longer.
Vivi Indhira, a forecaster at the West Java Climate Station, said the dry season had been underway since March in some areas, such as Bekasi City and the northern part of Karawang Regency. Meanwhile, several other areas entered the dry season in April, including central Karawang, central Subang and parts of Indramayu.
“As many as 56 per cent of areas in West Java are predicted to enter the dry season in May,” she said during an online press conference on Tuesday (14 April 2026).
She continued that areas expected to enter the dry season in June include most of Bogor Regency, northern Sukabumi, central Cianjur, eastern West Bandung, Bandung City, western Bandung, southeastern Garut, southern Tasikmalaya and western Pangandaran. Meanwhile, two per cent of the region falls within season type zone 1, covering Bogor City, central Bogor and a small part of northern Sukabumi.
“Compared with normal conditions, the majority of West Java — some 66 per cent — is predicted to enter the dry season earlier than usual,” she said.
Meanwhile, 25 per cent of the region is predicted to enter the dry season at the normal time, and 7 per cent is predicted to enter it later than normal. A further two per cent of the region falls within season type 1.
