The Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) office in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has announced that the forest fires in the Torean and Senaru Resort areas of Mount Rinjani, Lombok, were successfully extinguished as of 1 October 2026.

“Previously, the team was still finding smoke from embers burning around the Torean Resort, so firefighting efforts continued to ensure there were no embers or fire indicators that could potentially trigger a re-ignition in the Mount Rinjani area,” said Astekita Ardiarsito, Head of the Administrative Sub-division of the TNGR Office, in Mataram on Friday (2/10/2026).

He explained that the firefighting squad, alongside an assessment team, carried out operations at the Birisan Nangka location. Following the extinguishment, officers performed cleaning of remaining embers and monitoring to ensure no hotspots remained that could trigger further fires.

Based on preliminary data up to 1 October, the affected area is estimated to reach approximately 1,098.75 hectares. This figure remains a temporary estimate and will be continuously updated based on monitoring, mapping, drone documentation, and field verification.

“During the activity, officers also discovered one dead python,” he added.

He stated that the assessment team is conducting inspections of the post-fire trail conditions, including the state of the tracks, vegetation, the potential for fallen trees or burnt materials, and points requiring handling or repair.

The extinguishment of the fire does not automatically mean the trails can be reopened. The decision to reopen will continue to consider the results of the evaluation of trail conditions, terrain stability, the potential for falling trees, burnt debris, and visitor safety.

“Both trails are not yet being used as entry or exit points for climbing until further policy is issued based on the evaluation results,” he said.

He advised prospective climbers with Senaru e-tickets that they can reschedule or divert their route via the Sembalun Trail.

“Please remain vigilant, do not approach the former fire locations, do not create new fire sources, and follow the instructions of the officers,” he said.

The forest fire in Bukit Setampol, Torean Resort, Mount Rinjani Lombok, occurred on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, and officers have been managing the fire since then, even though no new hotspots have been visible recently.
