Forest Area Task Force Seizes 111,000 Hectares of Illegal Coal Mining Land in Bukit Soeharto

The Forest Area Order Task Force (Satgas PKH), established by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, has once again taken enforcement action against illegal coal mining companies. The Satgas PKH has conducted an enforcement operation regarding the use of forest areas within the Bukit Soeharto Park, covering 111.71 hectares in East Kalimantan, which has been controlled by PT Singlurus Pratama.

The Satgas PKH has imposed a fine of Rp 147.3 billion on the company. The Chairman of the Satgas PKH, Kuntadi, explained that the enforcement team visited the site of PT Singlurus’s illegal coal mining operations in Kutai Kartanegara Regency on Monday (31/08/2026).

The Satgas PKH conducted a direct verification of the use of the forest area, which serves as a buffer zone for the new national capital (IKN). “Based on the results of the field verification conducted by the Satgas PKH joint team, PT Singlurus Pratama has been proven legally and convincingly to have engaged in illegal coal mining activities,” Kuntadi stated in a press release in Jakarta on Tuesday (01/09/2026).

According to him, the company conducted illegal coal mining without completing the required Forest Area Utilisation Approval (PPKH) within the conservation forest area of the Bukit Soeharto Forest Park, with the affected area reaching 111.71 hectares. “Due to the violation of using forest areas without permission, the government has set a potential administrative fine of Rp 147.3 billion,” said Kuntadi.
