Forest and Land Fires in West Java Reach 196.40 Hectares During Dry Season

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that forest and land fires in West Java reached 196.40 hectares during the dry season up to 24 August 2026. The fires occurred across 91 sub-districts and 153 villages and urban wards.

‘West Java Province recorded 132 forest and land fire incidents. These events spread to 91 sub-districts and 153 villages or urban wards, with a total burned area reaching 196.40 hectares,’ said Hadi Rahmat, Public Relations Expert of BPBD West Java, on Wednesday (26/8/2026).

He said the most affected area was Sumedang Regency, with 20 incidents and a burned area of 21.68 hectares. These incidents occurred across 11 sub-districts and 21 villages or urban wards.

Meanwhile, the largest extent of damage was in Sukabumi Regency, which experienced land fires reaching 49.20 hectares from 12 incidents spread across 11 sub-districts and 15 villages or urban wards.

Hadi continued that other vulnerable areas included Majalengka Regency, which recorded 15 incidents with a burned area of 25.91 hectares. This was followed by Kuningan Regency with 10 incidents and 23.80 hectares, and Cirebon Regency with 8 incidents and 20.73 hectares.
