Forest and Land Fires Hit Timpeh, Dharmasraya

Forest and land fires have struck Nagari Timpeh, Timpeh District, Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra, in recent days. Yesterday, personnel from Unit 2 of the Criminal Investigation Directorate at Dharmasraya Police conducted inspections and assisted in extinguishing the fires in Nagari Timpeh.

The inspection was carried out after the Sipongi+ application detected seven hotspots. The seven points consisted of six from the NOAA20 satellite and one from the TERRA/AQUA satellite.

Upon arriving at the location, officers immediately checked the fire conditions and helped extinguish flames that were still burning. Most of the fire had already been extinguished. However, officers still found several small fire points and immediately carried out suppression to prevent the fire from spreading.

From the inspection results, six community plantations were found to have been burned, with a total area of approximately 19.5 hectares. The six plantations belong to Tumirin (2.5 hectares), Sujito (6 hectares), Sugiono (5 hectares), Masra (2 hectares), Asep (2 hectares), and Asrial (2 hectares).

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Police will examine a number of witnesses and coordinate with the Forest and Land Fire Task Force and relevant agencies.

Dharmasraya Police Chief AKBP Kartyana Widyarso Wardoyo Putro urged the public not to burn forests and land. “We urge the public not to carry out forest and land burning. If you see a fire, report it immediately to officers so that the fire can be extinguished quickly and does not spread,” said AKBP Kartyana.

Dharmasraya Police also invited the community to jointly protect the environment and not to open or clear land by burning.
