Forest and Land Fires Hit Mount Anjing in Bandung Regency

A land fire has occurred on Mount Anjing in Pameungpeuk District, Bandung Regency, West Java. Asep Bintang, Head of the Firefighting Division at the Bandung Regency Fire and Rescue Service, stated that the fire on Mount Anjing is located at the summit and cannot be reached by vehicles or on foot. The location of the fire is also far from residential areas. “For your information, our handling is reflected to the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) because the area is very far, and the burning area is far from residential areas, so we are only monitoring it,” he told reporters on Thursday (30/6).

Additionally, a land fire occurred in the Cikuya hills, Lagadar, Margaasih District, Bandung Regency. Video of the fire had gone viral on social media. Asep said the fire occurred on Wednesday (29/7/2026). The burning area was on a hill bordering West Bandung Regency (KBB). “Yes, the fire in Lagadar was in a bush area near a housing complex, and thank God we were able to overcome it,” Asep said. His team deployed personnel from the Taman Kopo Indah (TKI) post and the Soreang headquarters to extinguish the blaze. The source of the fire is believed to have been from burning rubbish that spread to the bushes. “The area that burned was bushland, with a total burnt area of 200 square metres,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Bandung Regency Fire and Rescue Service, Iman Irianto Sudjana, revealed that 88 land fires had occurred from 1 January to 29 July 2026. The data shows a significant increase. “The increase occurred in June with 13 incidents and 72 incidents in July up to the 29th,” he said. Mount Anjing itself is classified as a forest and land fire hotspot based on data from the Bandung Regency BPBD. In early June, the BPBD had mapped several forest and land fire-prone points in anticipation of the long dry season of 2026. Based on historical incident records, five sub-districts are in the red zone for forest and land fires. These points include Mount Anjing in Arjasari District, Mount Wayang in Pangalengan District, and the Kawah Putih area in Rancabali District. Additionally, vulnerability was detected in the villages of Cilame, Sukamulya, and Buninagara in Kutawaringin District. “This data is based on previous incident history. So there are five sub-districts that are prone to forest and land fires,” said Diki Sudrajat, Head of Prevention and Preparedness at the Bandung Regency BPBD, on Wednesday (8/6). In 2025, a total of 309 fires were recorded, 19 of which were land fires. In the first half of 2026 (January to June), the Bandung Regency Fire and Rescue Service recorded 199 fires, with 16 incidents involving land or bush.
