Forest and Land Fire Hits TNBTS Area in Bukit Sentong, Lumajang

A forest and land fire (karhutla) has occurred again in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area. This time, a hotspot was reported in the Bukit Sentong area, Ranupani Village, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency, on Tuesday (25/8).

The Head of the East Java Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Gatot Soebroto, confirmed the incident based on the latest situation report he received from the field team.

“On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, a fire occurred in the Bukit Sentong area, Ranupani Village, Senduro District,” Gatot said in his statement on Tuesday (25/8).

Gatot said his team has not yet been able to determine the origin of the hotspot in the area.

A joint team from various relevant agencies has been on standby and has gone directly to the scene to control the situation and prevent the fire from spreading to a wider area.

“The cause of the fire is still unknown,” he said.

In an effort to minimise the spread of the fire, personnel from the Lumajang Regency BPBD immediately moved quickly to conduct an assessment at the scene. They also continue to coordinate intensively with various relevant agencies to maximise the handling process.

Given the geographical conditions and hilly terrain, the extinguishing process cannot be carried out easily. Officers in the field have to struggle to contain the flames using equipment and methods adapted to the surrounding natural conditions.

“The current condition is that the Lumajang Regency BPBD together with the TNBTS team are handling the land route manually,” Gatot said.

Regarding the extent of the burned area and the ecological losses caused, the BPBD stated that officers are still collecting data. However, the BPBD confirmed that the incident caused no casualties.

“No casualties. The impact is still being assessed,” he said.

Gatot also assured that his team will continue to monitor the situation and update information regarding the fire status in the TNBTS area. Quick action will continue to be taken based on the results of field evaluations.
