Forensic Team Involves Toxicology, DNA, and Histopathology Experts in Sutrimo Exhumation

Forensic doctors have not yet been able to determine the cause of death of Sutrimo after the exhumation process was carried out at the cemetery where the victim was buried. A number of samples from the body were taken for further laboratory examination.

Chair of the Indonesian Forensic and Medicolegal Doctors Association (PDFMI), Brigadier General Dr. Sumy Hastry Purwanti, said the examination involved a number of experts to determine the manner and cause of Sutrimo’s death.

“Besides forensic and medicolegal specialists, we involved forensic laboratory, toxicology, DNA, and anatomical histopathology experts. We are working thoroughly and comprehensively based on the results of medical and laboratory examinations,” Sumy told reporters at the exhumation site on Wednesday (12/8).

Sumy said samples taken from the body would be examined further in the laboratory. The toxicology examination, among others, involved experts from the University of Indonesia (UI) and Airlangga University (Unair).

“We also invited colleagues from the toxicology laboratory at UI, as well as at Unair, to examine the lab results later. And also from DNA experts and anatomical histopathology experts,” she said.

According to Sumy, the exhumation process did not only focus on the condition of the body. The team also examined the grave, including the condition and type of soil, and took soil samples around the grave.

“The exhumation examined the grave, the type of soil, the length of the grave, as well as taking samples from the soil around the grave,” she said.

Although the body had been buried since 23 July 2026, Sumy said the soil conditions at the location were relatively dry so the excavation process could be carried out quite well.

“Indeed, decomposition has certainly occurred because it has been more than 10 days, from 23 July,” she said.

However, Sumy could not yet confirm the overall condition of the body or draw conclusions regarding the cause of Sutrimo’s death. All samples obtained still had to undergo laboratory analysis.

“We cannot immediately conclude the results of the examination because the samples taken still have to be analysed in the laboratory,” she explained.

The examination, she said, was carried out to help determine whether Sutrimo’s death was natural or unnatural.

“This examination is expected to help explain whether the death was natural or unnatural,” she said.

Sutrimo was found unconscious on Thursday (23/7). He was then taken by ambulance to Muhammadiyah Taman Puring Hospital and was pronounced dead. Information regarding Sutrimo’s condition when he was found had also circulated. The victim was reportedly found with foaming at the mouth.

Sutrimo was also said to be the head of household affairs (Karumga) of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) Febrie Adriansyah. However, until now the police are still conducting an investigation to examine the identity, background, and cause of death of Sutrimo. Sumy asked all parties to wait for the results of the forensic and laboratory examinations before drawing conclusions about the death.

“So that we can make clear whether the manner and cause of death was natural or unnatural,” she said.

Sutrimo’s death came just two weeks after the National Police conducted searches of two locations, namely the de’Clan Signature cafe in South Jakarta and Febrie’s house in Sentul, Bogor, on 8-9 July 2026.
